If you’ve dreamed of a perfectly straight smile but have been put off having orthodontic treatments because the thought of wearing braces terrifies you, Invisalign is the solution you’re looking for! Unlike the traditional fixed braces many people associate with teeth straightening, Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually move teeth into alignment for the perfect smile.
Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign aligners can be taken out and put back in at your leisure, so you can eat, drink and brush your teeth properly without fear of anything getting stuck or developing any tooth decay.
Crafted to fit exclusively to your teeth, Invisalign aligners are made from special SmartTrack™ material and are laser-measured to fit your gumline precisely – no loose fittings, no falling out when you least expect it. Your aligners will perfectly fit your smile and your smile only.
You could be a little worried about using something new to fix your teeth. But Invisalign isn’t a new teeth-straightening solution at all – the technology was formally approved for use in the 1990s and has been rapidly growing in popularity ever since.
Over 14 million people the world over have used Invisalign to give them the teeth and the smile they’ve longed for – could you be next?

Invisalign Process
During the Invisalign consultation, we will examine your mouth and check that you are a suitable candidate for treatment. We will also talk to you about the treatment and explain what it is, how it works and answer your questions. If you decide to go ahead we will take photos of your mouth and create impressions to be sent to the Invisalign lab.
The technicians at Invisalign use the latest computer software to design and create your bespoke aligners. The treatment process is mapped out using 3D imagery and the aligners are created and sent back to us.
After the aligners are manufactured and returned to us we can start the treatment process. We will explain how to wear your aligners and schedule a check-up within the next few weeks.
Each aligner must be worn for around two weeks and then swapped for the next one. You should wear the aligners for as long as possible every day and take them out only to drink, eat and maintain dental health.
When you have finished wearing your last aligner, treatment is complete and you can show off your brand-new smile to the world!

During Invisalign Treatment
When you begin your treatment for Invisalign, Essex dental specialists at Advance Dental will offer you some handy info you’ll find useful, including tips on the following:
Eating and Drinking with Invisalign
Because Invisalign aligners are easily removable, you needn’t worry about your eating and drinking while undergoing the treatment. Just make sure you remove your aligners before eating or drinking and you’ll have no problems!
Pro tip: You’re still able to drink water while wearing your Invisalign aligners, but for any other liquids, you’ll need to remove them.
Invisalign Comfort
Invisalign is recognised as one of the most comfortable options when it comes to teeth straightening – especially compared to traditional braces.
The only discomfort you may experience is when you change your aligners as your treatment moves forward. Because the aligners work by applying slight pressure, each new set may feel a little tight and take some time to get used to. But on the whole, they’re perfectly comfortable.
Invisalign Cleaning
You may want to clean your Invisalign aligners every now and then – even though you won’t be eating or drinking while wearing them, they may still need sprucing up a little.
Invisalign cleaning crystals will help keep your aligners looking and feeling fresh – you’ll receive all the information you need on this when you begin your treatment. Alternatively, you may also use basic toothpaste and a toothbrush to keep your aligners maintaining their natural sheen.
Invisalign Aftercare
Once your Invisalign treatment has run its course, you may still be required to wear retainers to ensure your teeth don’t return to the position you were trying to fix in the first instance – but this won’t last forever and differs from person to person. Your Invisalign Essex expert will likely recommend wearing these retainers for another six months, to firmly keep your teeth and jaw in the correct position. But all of this will be discussed with you at the appropriate time, and if you have any questions you’re more than welcome to ask!
Invisalign vs Traditional Braces
Invisalign is a great, discreet treatment to choose if you feel self-conscious about wearing braces. The benefits of Invisalign include:
- Greater flexibility: Patients can take their aligners out for ease of consuming foodstuffs and brushing their teeth
- Better oral health: Taking the aligners out enables you to brush your teeth thoroughly and reduces the risk of oral diseases
- No metal bands: Metal bands can be painful when they are adjusted and also cause irritation and soreness
- Appearance: The major advantage of Invisalign aligners is that they are practically invisible to others

How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign is an impressive, modern orthodontic treatment. It works by applying a controlled force to your teeth, carefully moving them into the desired position. First, we take impressions of your teeth. These impressions are then sent off to create your unique aligners. Each aligner is slightly different to the next, and you’ll be required to wear each for around two weeks at a time - your dentist will explain your individual treatment plan in more detail. Because each aligner is slightly different, every time you change to the next, a new force will be applied to your teeth, shifting them into a new position. Once you’ve finished your Invisalign treatment, it’s recommended that you wear a retainer at night. For the first or so you should wear this retainer every night, after this amount of time you can reduce this down to a couple of times per week. This will prevent your teeth from shifting out of position.
How long do I need to wear my Invisalign aligners?
The length of time your treatment takes depends on your individual circumstances. The more crowded or gappy your teeth, the longer the treatment takes. Likewise, if you have an overbite or crossbite, your treatment may take longer. If your treatment is a straightforward fix, you might be eligible for Invisalign Lite. This treatment usually consists of 10 aligners and can take as little as six months to complete. A full Invisalign treatment typically takes 6 to 18 months, however, more complex cases can take up to 24 months. Why should I choose Invisalign?
Choosing which teeth straightening treatment is right for you is a big decision – they’re all a big commitment, but some more than others. Invisalign is a discrete alternative to traditional braces. Your aligners are sculpted to your teeth out of a smooth thermoplastic material called SmartTrack, making them comfortable to wear – you don’t need to worry about any metal elements irritating your gums. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign is removable. This means you can avoid food getting stuck in them by taking them out before eating. Because they’re removable, you can also maintain the best possible oral hygiene by removing them when brushing your teeth. Because you don’t need wires tightening or brackets adjusting, your check-up appointments will likely be much faster than they would be with traditional braces. During these appointments, we will just check your progress is on track. Another massive benefit of Invisalign is the freedom you have with your food. Chewing gum, popcorn and apples are all no-go foods for metal brace wearers. But Invisalign patients don’t need to adjust their diet at all, provided you remove your aligners whilst eating.
