Sedation for Nervous Patients

Going to the dentist can be a nerve-wracking experience for many patients. If you suffer from dental phobia or feel very nervous about having a dental procedure, we are here to help. We are proud to have a very friendly, understanding and compassionate dental team and many years of experience in providing first class dental care for nervous patients. As well as using the latest technology and techniques to minimise discomfort, we also offer treatment under sedation for nervous patients.

What is sedation?

Sedation is a technique used commonly in dentistry and medicine to enable patients to feel relaxed during procedures. When you are sedated, you will still be conscious, but you won’t be able to feel anything and you won’t have much recollection of the procedure when you come around afterwards. Under sedation, you’ll feel tired and calm. You can still speak to your dentist if you want to, or you can just lie back and relax.

Sedation helps patients to feel relaxed before and during treatment and it can be particularly beneficial for nervous patients and those undergoing long or complex procedures. If you’ve had negative or painful experiences in the past, treatment under sedation can help to banish your fears and make you feel more comfortable.

After sedation, it can take a little time for the effects of the medication to wear off completely and we do ask that you arrange a lift home and ask somebody to stay with you. We strongly advise avoiding driving, operating machinery, making important decisions, exercising and drinking alcohol during the first 24 hours after sedation.

If you suffer with dental anxiety and would like to find out more about treatment under sedation, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our caring dentists.
