Dentures are an excellent replacement for missing teeth, but they can sometimes be uncomfortable. If you’re keen to get the best out of your dentures and keep sore spots at bay, bear these four tips in mind:
- See your dentist on a regular basis: it’s always a good idea to see your dentist on a regular basis, even if you don’t have any of your natural teeth remaining. Your dentist will check your gums and they’ll also keep an eye on your dentures.
- Keep your dentures clean: it’s really important to keep your dentures as clean as possible, so take them out and rinse them after eating and cleanse them before you go to bed. You can use denture cleaning solution or warm water to rinse. Avoid boiling water, as this can cause the denture to become misshapen.
- Consider using fixative: if you find that your dentures feel a little looser than you would like, consider using fixative to hold them in place. Some people prefer using fixative, but others prefer to rely solely on the natural suction power of the gums.
- Seek advice if your dentures are sore: if your gums are irritated or you find your dentures uncomfortable, call and make an appointment. It’s really important that your dentures fit well to get the most out of them and to prevent irritation.
