You probably take your mouth for granted and that’s understandable really. How many of us really think about the intricate processes that are necessary for us to be able to talk properly and eat and drink easily? Probably not many of us, but the fact is that your mouth is a vital set of organs that needs to be in excellent health in order to function properly and allow us to live in comfort. As such it is incredibly important that you take care of your oral health as best you can.
Right from childhood we are told about the importance of brushing our teeth. It is not something we should forget about in adulthood; it never ceases to be an integral part of our overall health. Brushing should take place at least twice a day and first thing in the morning and last thing at night are the recommended times to do it. You should use a brush which is easy to hold and has firm bristles. Once they become frayed you should replace the brush.
Use a brand of tooth paste which is fortified with fluoride so that your enamel can be strengthened. Make sure that you are not brushing too hard as such a habit can have a detrimental effect on the good health of your teeth and gums. Once you have brushed all areas of your mouth for about three minutes you should pull floss in between your teeth. Both brushing and flossing is carried out so that as much plaque is removed from your mouth as is possible at home.
It is vital that plaque is removed so that it cannot cause dental decay and gum disease. These ailments are a good reason to go and visit your Braintree dentist every six months to get your mouth checked out by a professional. Even the Hollywood stars would probably like to improve some of the things about the way they look and, if one is to believe many of the articles, they have a tendency to spend millions on plastic surgery and so on. While few of us mere mortals can afford such extravagances, there are things we can do which are far more modestly priced but just as effective in improving our looks.
Just think about what the first thing people probably see when they are being introduced to you. It is likely to be your mouth. This is where cosmetic dentistry comes in: a series of procedures designed to enhance the way that your smile looks so that it is something you can show off with pride when you are in social occasions.
Things like porcelain veneers to cover up cracked, stained or chipped teeth and teeth whitening procedures which work to remove stains and give your teeth a youthful sheen, can do wonders for your self confidence. The good thing is that these treatments do not have to cost the earth and can be carried out in conjunction with one another to save costs further. With a ‘smile makeover’, you can have a consultation with your dentist and decide on a number of aspects to your smile that you are not quite happy with and then come up with the techniques that will sort it all out.
As your Billericay dentist will no doubt tell you, these techniques can be completed far quicker than ever would have been possible in the past. So even if you have a very busy schedule indeed, there is no reason at all to sacrifice feeling great about your smile. Call 01245 268 494 for a free consultation at Advance Dental Clinic in Chelmsford.

If you have had a lapse in the way you take care of your teeth, you might find that cavities have begun to form in one or more of your teeth. You might feel a little ashamed about this and wonder how you let it happen. But what you really need to do it is to get it sorted out with your local dentist. The unfortunate truth is that dental cavities will not just go away, in fact if they are left without being dealt with effectively, they will only get worse and your teeth will end up in a far worse state.
Many people have had to have their cavities filled over the years but have not quite been happy with the metal fillings that they have ended up with it. Let’s face it: they don’t look great and it is a common complaint for people to feel unsatisfied with the patches of dark which blight their mouths. Metal fillings were not that popular with dentists either as they were rather difficult to work with. Dentists couldn’t always be as accurate with them as they would have liked to be.
But a new set of practices is changing the way that cavities are filled and patients are already enjoying the splendid new results. Using special dental composite, dentists can now fill cavities with a substance that is white and can be matched to the colour of your surrounding teeth. This is a massive improvement on the dark metal of old and Colchester dentists are happier too because cosmetic bonding uses material that is far more malleable, meaning that it is easier to work with and produces more accurate results. If it has been a while since you last visited your local dentist or you have been lucky enough not to require any treatment for a while then you might just be amazed about the new ways in which dentistry is able to be practiced. Like many aspects of the modern world, dentistry is being changed by the dazzling array of new technology which is on offer. And it is you, the patient who gets to reap all the benefits.
Many people put off going to the dentist to get that badly needed work done because they feel they simply don’t have the time. This is perfectly understandable with people working longer hours and families to look after. There hardly seems time for anything anymore! But CEREC technology means that many dental practices can now be carried out with breath taking swiftness that just wouldn’t have seem possible a few years ago.
Just take x-rays as an example. Dentists often need to get different views on one particular tooth or area of the mouth. With the traditional x-ray, this would mean that several different x-rays would have to be taken; a laborious process as every individual x-ray would have to be sent off for development in a lab. CEREC techniques use digital x-rays which are three dimensional, thus eliminating the need for repeated images to be taken.
These digital images can be used in conjunction with online technology so that things like porcelain dental veneers and crowns can be fitted very quickly indeed. The three dimensional data can be sent to online milling machines which make the products in little over five minutes. Your Basildon dentist will be delighted to explain all the changes and what they might mean for you and your mouth. Call 01245 268 494 for a free consultation at Advance Dental Clinic in Chelmsford.

If you’ve got crooked or misaligned teeth, it might be something that you don’t really think about anymore, you’ve probably just learnt to live with it and put up with the fact that your smile doesn’t look quite as special as it could. But just imagine what it could do for your confidence if you had a beautiful smile that you wanted to show off. It’s not hard to achieve this, just ask your Chelmsford dentist about having a brace fitted and take the first step towards getting a wonderful smile.
The traditional metal brace has been the stalwart of orthodontics for many years now and with good reason. It is a very effective method of straightening out teeth and no job is too big or small for it to work extremely well. Metal braces can correct a bite that is not quite aligned, it can shift teeth into a gap that shouldn’t be there and it can even rotate teeth which are crooked.
Braces work using a tried and tested system of metal brackets and wires. The brackets are securely attached to the front of your teeth before wires are threaded through them. Over a period of time – on average about two years – your dentist can then adjust these wires so that they move the brackets and thus the teeth too, into the desired positions.
At the end of it all you will have a perfect smile that you had probably given up imagining was even possible. Braces are very common among younger people but they are quite suitable for patients of any age. Don’t delay; talk to your dentist today about the terrific results that braces can yield. Getting your teeth straightened into a brilliant smile that you will want to show off day after day, is now easier than ever. Advances in technology mean that you can now have alignment issues with your teeth sorted out with incredible speed. The new product which is delighting so many patients is called Six Months Smile and it has a number of advantages over the traditional methods used in the straightening of teeth.
One of the most common complaints about traditional braces is that they look unsightly. No-one wants to feel uncomfortable about the way their mouth looks, but having teeth covered with metal wires and brackets and make people feel that way. Six Months Smile gets around this problem by using wires and brackets made from special, patented materials which are far more discreet. They are made, not only to be effective at gently moving teeth around the mouth, but also to appear the same colour as teeth, making them hard to notice in the mouth.
Another common complaint about traditional metal braces is that the treatment takes an awfully long time. Two years, which is the average length of time one has to wear a traditional brace for, is a long time in most peoples’ book. Six Months Smile can work in roughly a quarter of that time without any increase in financial cost for the patient.
Ask your Harlow dentist about Six Months Smile to see if the treatment is suitable for you. It might be just what you’ve been looking for if you have a wedding on the horizon or some other occasion for which you are anxious to look your very best. Since dental bridges have come onto the market, they have become the more preferred choice to that of a partial denture. For a start, they are permanently fixed in the mouth, they last, with care, for a good 20 years and at around £300 for the treatment, not a bad price for a fixing that allows you the freedom your lost tooth allowed you. They do require a little more attention with cleaning- your dentist will be able to supply special brushes and show you how to look after your bridge. There are generally three main functioning types on the market, although it’s not down to which you prefer, it’s down to where in the mouth you have lost your tooth. If a bridge has only one tooth to bond to using wire and resin, you will require a cantilever bridge. A similar technique of wire and resin bonding is used to attach a Maryland bridge, bonded to two or more adjacent teeth. The most popular however is a fixed bridge; the new tooth is bonded between two crowns and cemented onto two adjacent teeth either side of the gap. Aside from the vanity appeal to replacing a tooth, there are health implications too. Teeth around a gap can move and become loose. Food can become lodged around the gap and gums, and bacteria can set in, leading to tooth decay, gum disease and hence, further loss. When you’ve got a dental appointment coming up in Chelmsford, do you find yourself constructing a little horror film in your head and start shaking with fear? Do you also feel nauseous when you pass a dentist, or even think of one? If you do, then like a high percentage of the population, you are suffering from some form of dental phobia. It’s a very invasive condition that can not only prevent you getting a decent level of dental treatment that you need, but can also spread and spill over into other aspects of your life. It’s very difficult to determine what causes dental phobias without a proper psychological breakdown. Maybe you associate all dental treatments with pain from past experiences to you or others, maybe you see a dentist as some type of bully, like someone you knew at school. Your fear of needles might have sprung from inoculations that you had as a child; whatever has caused these problems, you need to seek professional help. However, you can confront it yourself as well. To start with, you should talk to your dentist about your anxieties and fears- they are an understanding bunch who are trained in this very problem and can offer a series of relaxation techniques, sedatives and anaesthetics to make your treatments more comfortable. If you understand the treatments and get to choose what you would like, you become more in control of what happens. If you can succeed in overcoming this phobia, it will be the catalyst to being triumphant in all aspects of your life’ and not just with dental phobia. In Brentwood, dental pain can come in many guises and can strike at any time. Sometimes it can come after you’ve had treatment or if you’ve had an injury. Heavy dental procedures can involve a lot of work to rectify problems and leave the mouth feeling sore and fragile afterwards. Generally, you will be prescribed a course of painkillers until the pain subsides. Other pains can be caused by an accident; minor injuries like a chip, or if veneer has fallen off or a filling has dropped out, and it’s likely that it can leave the gums and the tongue vulnerable to laceration. It is possible to fill any holes with sugar free gum and again use painkillers until you can get to the dentist. However, with a toothache, it can indicate a build up of decay inside the tooth. Again, painkillers can help here, but so can herbal remedies such as clove and Echinacea oils that have soothing qualities to ease the pain, whilst avoiding hot and cold drinks, until treated. Another pain that results from constant exposure to wear and tear, is pain found in the jaw. This can indicate a poor occlusion, or ‘bite’, or teeth grinding and is more complex to treat, even surgery may be required if significant damage is already done.
The worst, and potentially, the most dangerous cause of dental pain, is caused by an abscess forming. This can escalate very quickly; the blood can become poisoned and cause a haemorrhage to build up in the brain. Once the face shows any indication of swelling, emergency help should sort. Call 01245 268 494 for a free consultation at Advance Dental Clinic in Chelmsford.
