Being scared of going to the dentist and will directly affect a good many people living in Brentwood, it will even stop some people from going at all, and then you could be putting your health on the line because problems in the body’s most vital organs have been linked to problems in the mouth. Dental phobia needs to be conquered otherwise it can lead to other phobias too. Whatever it is that has got into your head to prevent you getting the treatments you need, has to be removed and there is only one way of really doing this, and that’s by talking to someone professionally who can get to the root of your phobia and then flush it out. You may be surprised to learn also that many dentists are trained for this, so they understand your worries and are there to listen. But it’s more than likely that your phobias are born out of dental procedures that were used many years ago. If you have the chance, you should really do some research and find out just how far dentistry has come of late- almost to the point of being completely painless without anaesthetic. And the sedation and anaesthetics used in modern dentistry are there as a back-up for you to choose, and hence putting you in charge of what you want from your treatments. It’s hard to think that once upon a time, dental implants were the domain of the exclusive few at one point and here we are in 2011 being offered the treatment in Maldon! But because of how far technology has leapt forward over the past 25 years, the old hammer and nail techniques of fitting an implant have made way for the laser and computer. The laser has also made the need for the scalpel virtually obsolete in implant procedures, physical cutting causes trauma to the gums, hence the healing times of fitting an implant could take anywhere up to 8 months to heal. But now, once the location of the implant has been assured with digital imaging, the laser can place a hole in the jaw with pinpoint accuracy, whilst doing the very little damage to the gums- in the case of mini-implants, it’s done in a day. But it’s the freedom that an implant gives to the patient that is staggering. It’s there for good once it’s in, and can be used to attach crowns and bridges to, they can also be used to replace a full mouth of teeth if required. The refinement of such treatment has made it easier to do, hence it is starting to pop up all over the country, which is fantastic for the customer, because the costs of having dental implants have plummeted of late. It’s pretty safe to assume that most of us in Braintree know how to look after our teeth at home, or at least we should, although having a regular check-up should highlight if you are doing anything wrong at all, and if you are, talk to your dentist about it so you can practice oral hygiene efficiently when you get back. It’s not a hard philosophy to understand, and if you take time out to get it right, your teeth will give good service to the end of time. The logic behind oral hygiene is to prevent bacteria and plaque from developing on and around your teeth and gums, so in theory, if you brush and floss a couple of times a day, this shouldn’t happen, but it also depends on what you brush with, how you brush and the toothpaste you choose. Practice makes perfect here, but with a little perseverance, you’ll find the perfect balance in the end. There are also a lot of fine, back-up products out there to bail you out too. Flosses, flossing sticks and inter-dental brushes are all designed to reach the place your toothbrush fears to tread. Then of course, there’s a superb range of mouth-washes on offer to finish off with. Never underestimate the value of maintaining your oral hygiene each day, for it can save you lots in costly repair work in the future. Yes, it’s that time of the year we all love so much in Epping, where you have someone rooting around inside your mouth with strange looking instruments and buzzing devices- the dental check-up! This is the time to get your dentist to possibly fix those little things you may have missed, or forgot to do since the last time you paid a visit. The logic behind a check-up is to make sure you have managed to keep your mouth healthy and aren’t suffering from more ghoulish problems such as tooth decay or gum disease, and if you feel that something has been going awry, now’s the time to mention it so it can get sorted. A simple x-ray will determine if you have any decay getting into the teeth, whilst the dentist will clean around your gums and teeth to remove any tartar that has started to build up. If any decay has set in, this can be remedied by a simple filling. Of course, as we get older, missing an appointment can be costly, for if some decay has managed to eat its way into the teeth, then what would have been a filling has suddenly become a root canal with possibly a crown. This is how quickly things move in the mouth, but sticking to those two dates a year with your dentist should be enough the stop anything serious happening to your teeth- that and looking after your teeth at home and the check-up is also a good time to talk about that too. Cosmetic dentistry is a little bit like modern cooking that you see on the TV; everyone is thinking ‘oh I like that, wonder if I can get it around here?’. Thing is, that philosophy is starting to reach small towns like Billericay as the demand for the latest ‘must haves’ come into the rural areas of England. For instance, just take a look in the chemists and you will find shelves full of the latest home bleaching kits and superb new whitening toothpastes that are in vogue right now. Dentists have also had to catch up with the latest crazes in cosmetic dentistry and offer now everything that you see advertised, just to make you look as good as the person advertising it! Keeping to the theme of teeth whitening, most dentists will offer you the joys of laser whitening, guaranteed to get you the look you want in an hour and all for under a hundred quid. They can also measure you up with the latest home bleaching systems available. Of course, they still have the ‘old’ aces up their sleeves, such as cosmetic bonding, veneers, Lumineers and crowns, whilst having a couple of ‘new’ aces too, namely in the form of modern dentures and implant technology. But before you jump into the intoxicating world of cosmetic dentistry, always check with your dentist for your suitability of these treatments before taking the plunge. If you’re one of these people that feel you can barely fit anymore into an already overcrowded day, you probably haven’t the time to think much about getting your teeth into shape with a little bit of cosmetic dentistry on the side. But think again, because those wonderful dental scientists have caught up with the needs of the modern world and come up with something just for the likes of you in Basildon- CEREC. Not satisfied with just inventing beautiful cosmetic dentistry ideas such as crowns veneers, white fillings, etc, which would normally take a reasonable few weeks to measure up and fix, no, they have now put together all the latest technology, such as computers, digital imaging and a good old fashioned milling machine to come up with a system that will reduce those few weeks to around 90 minute at the most! That’s from start to finish as well! In reality, you book up the appointment (probably do that on line now too!), then you go along and have some digital images taken of the bits and pieces you need doing. Whilst the dentist is getting your teeth ready for your fitting, the images would have been fed, via a computer into the milling machine to make your new fitting automatically. Then, it is cemented into place and out you walk. Of course, any slight alterations can be made on the spot to ensure a perfect fit and a perfect new tooth. Got time now? Call 01245 268 494 for a free consultation at Advance Dental Clinic in Chelmsford.

Ever looked in the mirror and thought, yeah, I’m still holding my own here but, when you smile, are frustrated by the odd tooth ruining your overall persona? And though it grates away at you, it seems pointless to undergo a lengthy course of teeth alignment right? You don’t need it in your life right now. Well think again, because dentists in Harlow are offering the latest tooth alignment from across the Atlantic that promises to nail those annoying oddities in your smile in just 6 months. Yes, the 6 months smile offers you a very discreet service indeed in just that time scale and focuses on the odd tooth here and there. Preparation is minimal, although in some, a tooth may require removal so that the wonky ones can be tugged into place. Then, a tooth colored brace is fitted around the teeth and anchored at the back of the mouth. Every so often, you have to pop into the dentists to have it adjusted and you may have to be a little more attentive when it comes to oral hygiene. But in 6 months’ time you’re laughing again, openly! Surely even you can put up with it for this time to get your smile back? Call 01245 268 494 for a free consultation at Advance Dental Clinic in Chelmsford.

If a concept is still going strong after over a quarter of a century of being in use, whilst confronted with brand new ideas trying to steal its crown, then it means that the original concept was a good one. Herein lies the secret of cosmetic bonding; though it has evolved, becoming more refined with new, better materials to work with, but the principle remains the same- bonding offers a short sharp fix to ‘pretty-up’ those tired teeth. It’s a terribly quick process whereby the dentist will apply several layers of tooth colored resin (your tooth color) to the problem area of the tooth and then sculptured into a shape that will fit in with the rest of the teeth in your mouth. This easy, painless treatment can repair and hide an array of annoying little cosmetic problems in the mouth, from chips, cracks and gaps in the teeth to full crowns and the replacement of those often unsightly old fillings that lurk in the back of the mouth. Colchester is a busy and upwardly mobile town and its demands keep people on the go all of the time, so if you find that you could do with a touch-up to the mouth, to keep you smiling with confidence while you go about your business, then look no further than cosmetic bonding to answer your prayers. It’s not the best news in the world, learning that you have to have a brace to tug your mouth into shape, and just because you are getting older, you feel that you have avoided this bear trap either, because most dentists in Chelmsford will tell you that three-quarters of adults, in the town could also do with some form of teeth alignment. Of course, it’s horses-for-courses, and it’s a little bit of a minefield to tip-toe through when it comes to choosing the brace you require and want. Researching the market by interviewing dentists and orthodontists first is a good move, if only to get one that you feel comfortable with, because during the treatment, you will be seeing them quite a lot; so get one you like. Then it’s the choice of brace- there are many to choose from, but it largely depends on what you need doing and what you are prepared to pay. Some are very quick and more expensive; some sit very discreetly in the mouth (almost invisible), some not so. And finally, some are removable and some are not- it’s your preference in the end, but it’s important to remember this. Braces are designed to keep your mouth healthy in the long run. Get this right and you should keep your mouth and teeth in shape for ever. Call 01245 268 494 for a free consultation at Advance Dental Clinic in Chelmsford.

Mouth guards are used in many walks of life in Billericay, for varying reasons. In dentistry for example, a mouth guards can be used in the form of an aligner or in the treatment of Bruxism (teeth grinding), they can also be used for teeth whitening procedures. But it comes into its own when it is used recreationally in sports, which more and more people are turning to as a way to unwind after work. A mouth guard can seriously reduce the level of damage done to the mouth, especially in full contact sports; not only does it protect the teeth, lips, gums, jaw and neck, but serious infections in the teeth and gums that can come from sports related injuries, and that can be costly to rectify. They generally come in three forms; one you can buy over the counter, another that you can mould to your mouth or a tailor made one bespoke to you. Whatever you choose, it should not only be comfortable in the mouth but be strong enough to protect you in the sport of your choice. Manufacturers of mouth guards have picked up on this too, as some are made from materials that can absorb much greater impact and there are also mouth guards on the market that protect the teeth of those people who wear braces too.
