Cancer has been around in Epping as long as people have lived here, but that’s not any relief to anyone who happens to be diagnosed with it. When anyone is diagnosed with the illness, they are about to embark on a journey that will require inner strength and the support of others and it’s the same with oral cancer too- a condition that is on the increase. Why we just don’t know, the disease is not an exact science yet and affects even the healthiest of us. But thanks to the research that has gone into the more likely causes of it- stress, lifestyle and diet, we have started to learn how to avoid it more and with technology, beat it as well. As with any problem in the body, any issue that arises in the mouth, especially if it keeps arising, such as sore throats, swallowing issues, jaw ache when eating and ulcers should be checked out immediately: simple tests can ascertain if there is a problem and the earlier it is caught, the quicker it can be cured. How advanced the problem is will decide the level of treatment needed to address it. This can involve anything from physical surgery to radio/chemo therapy, but even after you have been treated, the real battle comes with recovery and that involves support from friends, family and health support systems. Dentists know only too well how this disease affects people and they are the best people to talk to should you be diagnosed with oral cancer. Call 01245 268 494 for a free consultation at Advance Dental Clinic in Chelmsford.

One in three people in Britain will be directly affected by cancer in their lifetimes. Survival rates are improving all the time, thanks to the continuing good work of scientists and researchers, but cancer is always best dealt with in its early stages. Dentists can help with one particular type of cancer because they have such intimate access to your mouth.

During the regular visits to your dentist, they will not only be looking out for the health of your teeth and gums but also being vigilant for any signs of the development of oral cancer. You can keep your eyes peeled for it too when you are brushing your teeth and looking at the inside of your mouth in mirror. Rusty, hardened patches in your mouth should be reported to your dentist immediately as they might be an early sign of cancer in the mouth.

Males have far higher rates of oral cancer in the United Kingdom than females, as do those who smoke tobacco and drink regularly and to excess. But that does not mean that every doesn’t need to be on guard. Your chances are excellent if the disease is caught early and your Epping dentist will be well aware of the correct procedure to refer you to a specialist as soon as he or she thinks that something might be wrong.

All of which serves as another excellent reason to keep up the habit of going to see your dentist every six months. They have trained for years to be able to assess your mouth in terms of its health; it doesn’t matter how thoroughly you examine your mouth for signs of oral cancer, your dentist will be more effective at it than you are! Call 01245 268 494 for a free consultation at Advance Dental Clinic in Chelmsford.

One of the worst conditions that can affect your mouth is oral cancer. This extremely serious affliction has quite a high survival rate but it must be diagnosed early to allow treatment to be effective. Trained to look out for the early signs of oral cancer, your dentist can play a vital part in diagnosing oral cancer by being vigilant for white or red patches on the soft tissue of your mouth which don’t naturally fade.

British males are twice as likely to contract oral cancer as women. If you smoke tobacco and drink alcohol your chances of developing the disease increase too but about twenty five per cent of oral cancer patients are either women or non-smokers or those who drink very little. Even if you are not in high risk category, you must be vigilant about oral cancer.

The first signs of oral cancer might be rusty spots or small swellings on the inside of your mouth. If you experience oral bleeding without any apparent cause or sudden weightloss, you should inform your Harlow dentist so he or she can examine you further. This applies if you are suffering from a sore mouth which causes you difficulties when eating and drinking.

If you keep a balanced, healthy diet and avoid consuming tobacco and too much alcohol, you are doing much in the fight against oral cancer and you can even examine yourself at home, visually and manually. But visiting your dentist every six months is most important of all as they are trained to spot the early signs of oral cancer and might prevent you from having to undergo painful surgery. Call 01245 268 494 for a free consultation at Advance Dental Clinic in Chelmsford.

According to the Oral Cancer Foundation in America, someone dies at least every hour from the disease in the United States alone. Expand this across the rest of the world and we’re talking about a very serious killer. 300,000 new cases of oral cancer are diagnosed every year across the world and the disease is a serious threat, although it is very curable in its early stages. This is why it so important to have yourself checked as a routine, every six months. The perfect place to do this is at your dentist.

Dentists are trained to spot the signs and symptoms of oral cancer and will conduct a check as part of a standard check up. This will give you the best chance of spotting the disease early and an 80 per cent chance of survival. Oral cancer is described as any cancer that affects the oral cavity including the lips, tongue, gums and throat. It usually manifests itself as sores or a red or white colour on the soft tissue in the mouth. These sores are painful and don’t disappear naturally after a week or so like non-threatening sores. There are other symptoms such as unexplained weight loss or bleeding in the mouth. If you are in any way concerned about something in your mouth, make an appointment to see a Chelmsford who will examine you and carry out a brush biopsy if necessary.

There are several risk factors for oral cancer that may make you a more likely candidate. As you might expect, smoking is one of the very high risk factors for contracting the disease. As is alcohol and they are particularly dangerous when combined. Age and sex also make you more likely to be at risk, with men being twice as likely to be a sufferer.

You can protect yourself against oral cancer by avoiding dangerous substances such as tobacco and also avoiding unnecessary sunlight. Seeing your dentist every six months will also give you the best possible chance of beating the disease. Even a short two minute dental exam could make the difference and save your life. Call 01245 268 494 for a free consultation at Advance Dental Clinic in Chelmsford.
