The most obvious thing to do when choosing a dentist is to ask your family, friends, and neighbors for their recommendations. You might also wish to try your colleagues at work. Your doctor or pharmacist may also have good recommendation. If you are relocating, your current dentist may also have contacts where you are going. When looking for a dentist, consider the dentist’s office hours. Are they suited to your schedule? Is the location of your dentist easy for you to get to? What is the background of the prospective dentist? Where did they get educated and trained? Is the potential dentist keeping up with new technology and methods? You may also want to consider what type of anesthesia the prospective dentist is certified to administer in the event that you are allergic to certain substances. Does your prospective dentist have a procedure in place for handling dental emergencies outside of his or her office hours? Be sure to ask up front about any fees and payment plans if you are comparison shopping. Visit the office to see whether or not it is to your liking. Dental offices should be neat, orderly, and the equipment should look modern and clean. Speak to the staff to see if they are friendly and helpful. Here in Colchester, we are sure that you will find our offices and staff to your liking. Come visit us today! Call 01245 268 494 for a free consultation at Advance Dental Clinic in Chelmsford.

Teeth erosion, also called dental erosion or acid erosion, is the deterioration of the enamel on your teeth from acid. Particularly acidic foods will wear away the enamel on your teeth, and if your saliva does not neutralize it enough, you will lose particles of your tooth enamel. Enamel is the hardest substance in our bodies, but it is not invulnerable. When enamel is lost, it exposes more sensitive parts of our teeth known as dentin. Symptoms of teeth erosion include discolouration. Your teeth may look darker and yellow. Teeth erosion also causes sensitivity in teeth. You will react strongly to cold and hot foods. In earliest stages of teeth erosion, your teeth may look rounded or transparent. If you experience cracking or dents in your teeth, you may be experiencing the advanced stages of teeth erosion. You will also feel extreme sensitivity at the severe stages of teeth erosion. You can prevent teeth erosion by following a few simple tips. Avoid eating or drinking very acidic foods such as carbonated beverages. When you do eat acidic food, rinse your mouth with water to encourage remineralization of your teeth and wait at least an hour to brush your teeth. Teeth erosion can be caused by several different factors, so if you suspect that you have this problem, consult your dentist in Epping for a proper diagnosis and options for treatment. Call 01245 268 494 for a free consultation at Advance Dental Clinic in Chelmsford.

Teeth decay, also known as dental cavity or dental caries can affect patients of all ages. Any sugar left on your teeth from foods and drinks consumed is turned into acid by bacterial processes. The acid then wears away at your teeth in a process known as demineralization. Demineralization breaks down the hard tissues of your teeth, resulting in teeth decay. In advanced stages of teeth decay, there will be visible pits and holes in your teeth. You may experience toothaches and discomfort. If you are already suffering from gum disease, you are more vulnerable to teeth decay because more of your teeth are exposed to plaque and tarter. Some people are genetically more inclined to experience teeth decay. If you are on certain medications, use alcohol or tobacco, you may be more vulnerable to teeth decay. Teeth decay is a serious matter that can result in the severe damage and loss of your natural teeth. Your dentist in Chelmsford is able to catch teeth decay at the earliest stages. If caught quickly enough, you may need nothing more than a fluoride treatment to reverse the symptoms of teeth decay. However, more severe cases will require fillings, crowns, or extraction of the teeth and a root canal. If you suspect that you are suffering from teeth decay, consult your dentist as quickly as possible to prevent costly and invasive treatment. Call 01245 268 494 for a free consultation at Advance Dental Clinic in Chelmsford.

Your child’s teething can begin as early as three months and go on until your child’s third birthday. Teething tots can be frustrating for parents because it can be a painful experience for your precious child. Teeth are breaking through the gum line and are causing discomfort and swelling. Teething tots may drool more and want to chew on anything in sight. Teething may cause crankiness, restlessness, and disruption in sleep and eating. Tender and swollen gums are perfectly normal in teething tots. It helps to wipe your child’s face often with a cloth to remove any drool and prevent rashes. Encourage your child to chew on safe things that can’t be swallowed or broken into smaller pieces. A wet washcloth frozen for approximately half an hour makes for a great teething tool. Wash it thoroughly after each use, of course. Rubber teething rings can be helpful as well, but stay away from the ones filled with liquid as they may leak or break with force. Don’t let your child chew on anything very hard as this will cause damage to the soft tissues of their mouth and cause particular trauma to their gums. If your teething tot is particularly cranky and in discomfort, consult your dentist in Maldon about acetaminophen. Don’t medicate your child on your own and don’t try using alcohol on your teething tot’s gums. Call 01245 268 494 for a free consultation at Advance Dental Clinic in Chelmsford.

If you experience any damage to your teeth from injury, disease, or loss of your teeth, you will need to seek out your dentist in Basildon for prompt dental treatments. There are many different kinds of dental treatments available to patients today and what sort of treatment you need is best determined by proper diagnosis from your dentist. You may need a filling for a cavity if you are suffering from tooth decay. For severely decay or a broken tooth, you may need a crown, also called a cap, to strengthen the damaged tooth and to improve its appearance. Root canals are a dental treatment to clean out the core of the teeth, including the nerve tissues of the root. Veneers are another dental treatment that can help damaged teeth by correcting stains, chips, broken teeth, or unsightly gaps. Dental implants and bridges are used to replace missing teeth and can help you smile and eat with confidence again. If there are no serious medical issues with your oral health, you may want to consider cosmetic dental treatments to help you improve your smile. Cosmetic dental procedures can raise your self esteem and help you feel better about your teeth, increasing your general well being. Ask your dentist about teeth whitening or a full smile make over. There are great affordable dental treatments to give you the sparkling white smile you have always hoped for. Call 01245 268 494 for a free consultation at Advance Dental Clinic in Chelmsford.

Visiting your dentist at least twice a year is very important to maintaining a good oral health. At a typical dental visit, you should expect to see a dental hygienist as well as your dentist. The dental hygienist will do a rudimentary check of your gums and teeth, then do a cleaning and polishing. Cleaning removes any hardened plaque on your teeth, especially the calculus below the gum line. Calculus can only be removed by your dentist and does not respond to brushing from home. Polishing your teeth further removes any plaque and surface stains. Your teeth will feel squeaky clean after a good rinse following these two procedures. When you see the hygienist, it is a good opportunity to ask for any tips about brushing and flossing better at home. Your dentist will step in after your hygienist has finished. Your dentist may require x-rays to make certain there are no cavities. If any problems are discovered, your dentist will be able to discuss treatment options with you, including referrals to a specialist. Keep your dentist updated on your medical history and let your dentist know if there are any changes to your overall health. Bring a list of any medicines you take including dosages. A dental visit in Braintree is a necessary, beneficial, and easy experience so don’t put it off. Call 01245 268 494 for a free consultation at Advance Dental Clinic in Chelmsford.

Did you know that dental cavity affects more children in our nation than any other chronic infectious disease? The best way to protect your kids’ teeth is to introduce them to your dentist in Basildon from an early age. Your kids should learn not to fear the dentist and to embrace and practice good oral health. Your dentist can help your child learn proper ways to brush and floss their new teeth and to protect their new permanent molars. One option parents may want to consider to best protect kids’ teeth is dental sealants. Dental sealants are thin plastic sheets that are fitted over your new permanent molars. The dental sealants act as a protective shield against harmful bacteria that cause tooth decay. Your dentist can also treat your child’s teeth with a fluoride treatment to combat tooth cavity. At regular dental visits, your dentist can check for early signs of any dental disease in your kids’ teeth. Regular dental visits ensure that your kids’ teeth have no problems, but if any issues do arise, they can be caught early and treated with ease. Your kids, like adults, need to visit the dentist at least twice a year for check ups and clean ups. For the little ones who especially love sweets and fuss about brushing and flossing regularly, parents may want to consider more frequent visits!

The medical term for dry socket is alveolar osteitis. Dry sockets occur after you’ve had teeth pulled and the pain afterwards intensifies and refuses to go away after several days. The hole in the bone where your tooth has been removed is not healing properly and the sensitive nerves and bones there are exposed to the air, food, and fluid. This causes great discomfort to the patient and can lead to infection and a pain that endures for several days. The chances are very slim that you will experience dry sockets after an extraction, but the symptoms are not unheard of and something you should be aware of. Smokers, people with poor oral hygiene, and users of birth control pills are more likely to get dry sockets after having teeth removed. Dry sockets are very painful indeed and it is unfortunate when a patient is suffering from it, but the good news is that dry sockets are easily treatable. Simply taking aspirin or ibuprofen can ease the discomfort for patients. In more severe cases, your dentist in Colchester may prescribe a stronger drug or block your exposed nerve with a medicated dressing or a specially formulated paste to encourage healing. You will have to frequent the dentist’s while you are healing from dry sockets. Your dentist may also prescribe antibiotics and suggest that you use a special mouth wash or gargle with salt water every day. Call 01245 268 494 for a free consultation at Advance Dental Clinic in Chelmsford.

You probably wouldn’t know it straight away, but many dentists in Billericay incorporate and also advocate the use of mouth-guards in their work, and in your work recreationally. Modern aligning treatments look more like gum-shields these days than the more traditional images we have of a mouthful of metal to manipulate the teeth into line. Teeth grinding also poses danger to the teeth and a way of remedying this wear to the jaws and the teeth themselves is to fit a mouth-guard. They are also used after certain operations in the mouth to prevent further damage occurring and allowing the healing process to take place. But the greatest use of a mouth-guard can be found in sport, especially contact sport. A well made guard can be the difference between a minor injury and a serious one, protecting the jaw and its teeth and gums, as well as damage to the neck. Getting the right one is obviously important and so you should always consult with your dentist: as much as a dentist would like and does like your custom, there is a very good reason behind why a dentist will help you with your choice to prevent injury. The first prime directive behind a dentist’s work is to protect your teeth from falling into decay and to limit and repair any damage to your mouth. Of course, the other reason is they will be having to patch you up after you’ve done 12 rounds with Evander Holyfield due to a dodgy gum-shield; they’d rather you protect your teeth in the first place. Call 01245 268 494 for a free consultation at Advance Dental Clinic in Chelmsford.

Instead of the problematic methods of traditional x-rays, most dentists now tend to utilise the digital version of x-rays in their surgeries. This has a major impact on the way that work can be carried out and is leaving patients very happy with the results. Digital x-rays speed up processes and allow dentists to link up the action of taking a projection of the mouth with the manufacture of things like porcelain dental veneers and crowns.

X-rays as they were for many decades provided a useful way of capturing an image of teeth. Dentists were able to see the shape of a tooth beneath the gum line as well as above it without having to manually go inside the gum. But there are a number of drawbacks to the way that traditional x-rays work.

Often dentists need to get a rounded view of a tooth or an area of the mouth. Traditional x-rays only offer two dimensional, flat images so the dentist would sometimes have to move the patient slightly and then take another x-ray. Each of these images would have to be developed in a separate and specialist lab. The dentist would have to wait to receive the image back as well

Digital x-rays bypass these problems consummately. For a start they come in three dimensions that can be navigated on a computer screen as soon as the image is taken. They do not have to be sent off to a special lab and so the dentist can act immediately on the image he has taken. The next time you have work done by your Basildon dentist and are surprised at the speed, it is probably due in part to digital x-rays. Call 01245 268 494 for a free consultation at Advance Dental Clinic in Chelmsford.
